So this is Christmas 2020. Socially distanced. Closed stores. No christmas markets. Cancelled Christmas parties. And a cancelled family visit in Austria – a Skype Christmas dinner date instead. I think everyone imagined this Christmas differently, but well, here we are.
Normally I’m really looking forward to Christmas, but this year the Christmas spirit inside me went missing. Celebrating without family and friends just isn’t the same, with the skype date that felt like any other ordinary day.
I can’t help but feel a bit lost this Christmas. Responding to text messages late, forgetting to wish people a merry christmas (for those who know me, I’m sorry if I forgot you, it’s nothing personal), and not even Christmas movies cheering me up. So this year I’m not really excited about Christmas, instead I’m wishing this year was already over, because I don’t think it could get any worse.
And on New Year’s Eve I’ll be staying up until midnight. Not to greet the New Year, but to make sure 2020 actually leaves.
