Goodbye 2020!

goodbye 2020

I’ve been thinking a lot about the last year the past few days, initially because I’ve thought that might have been the worst year so far. But truth is: it wasn’t. It actually was one of the years where I’ve achieved the most.

In January I passed my two last exams in a subject which I have always struggled with. One of those two was a board exam and actually my last try before having to quit my studies. So I’m reaaaaally glad that went well.

In February there was the skiing trip with my family that I really enjoyed. Who knew that would be the last skiing vacation for a while? So I’m glad I had that one. And of course there was FOSDEM in Brussels at the beginning of February, which was also great fun, especially seeing old friends/colleagues again.

I can’t really remember anything that happened in March/April/May, because everything was such a blur. Well, apart from the obvious (*cough* Corona *cough*). Oh, and I’ve started this blog of course! So there is something I’ve achieved in those months.

In June – after having been working on it for months – I finally handed it my bachelor thesis! And I got an A! *yay* And since most of the restaurants opened up again I finally met up again with some of my closest friends – while keeping my distance.

Then the big day in July – on the 1st of July I had my final bachelor exam, and I passed with distinction! I was so happy on this day, I had been working for that distinction for months, and I had reached my goal. So that definitely deserved some celebrating.

August was again pretty quiet, but it was my birthday and I was so lucky that there weren’t that many restrictions so I could actually do stuff on this day. I had breakfast with friends, went climbing with my family and then had dinner at a Chinese restaurant. Felt very special 🙂

September was a pretty special month – first I had my graduation day, which was actually the nicest day of the year. We had it outside in front of a lake, it was warm outside and the sun was shining. And I could celebrate the day with my whole family. That day will definitely stick with me. And of course I got my first job, which I am also very happy about.

The 3rd of October was the big day – I finally moved to the Netherlands, almost a year after I had finished my internship, and so far I love it! Definitely don’t regret this decision, even though we’ve been in a lockdown pretty much all the time. On the 19th of October I started at my new job and met my new buddy – I’m really happy about that too.

Well, November and December weren’t so special again, with the lockdown and me not being able to go back to Austria fro Christmas. But that is okay, there will be times when this becomes possible again.

Yes, 2020 definitely was the strangest year so far, and I will never get used to keeping a distance from the people I love and to wearing masks. I’m so looking forward to hugging my friends again. But overall it was a really good year for me, with some projects queued up I haven’t told anyone about yet. So it definitely could have been way worse 🙂

Well, goodbye 2020! And let’s hope for an even better 2021!
