‘Citizenfour’

Hacked!

I was thirteen years old when an American man published a whole lot of documents about mass surveillance of American citizens, but also people all over the world. In the beginning he called himself ‘Citizenfour’ to not be identified. Only after a while he met up with journalists, who wrote about the documents he gave them and made this man more or less famous. I think I don’t need to say the name in order for you to know who I mean. I’m writing about Edward Snowden.

Since the NSA is probably spying on us anyway – especially, since I’ve googled Edward Snowden a hundred times in the past week 😛 – I’m not afraid to write this, since it’s freedom of speech. Anyway – last weekend I read Snowden’s book, and a few days later I watched the film about him (which is called ‘Citizenfour’, too).

And it reminded me, why I even wanted to work in IT law at the beginning. I’ve always found this world fascinating. Snowden mentions in his book, that technology moves faster than the law, which means that the law is always behind. So, governments will always use this difference to use it for their own benefit, and that is definitely not grant us more privacy. But privacy is really important in a world, that – especially now – communicates over the Internet all the time.

This book by Snowden inspired me to stay true to my passion. I hope that I can fulfill my dream of working in IT law in a few years, when I’ve finished studying. Until then, I will continue reading books about that topic. And maybe a few more about Edward Snowden, because somehow I really like this guy 😛

I know I’ve promised you guys I would share my internship story, but I had to get that out – the next post will be about the internship!
