January 1, 2020. At the beginning of this year I set myself the goal to read 20 books in twelve months. Before I hadn’t had much time for reading and I thought that with everything going on this year – finishing my bachelor studies, the wedding of one of my best friends, wanting to move out in the fall and starting to work – this would be the highest number I could do. In order to not set too high expectations, I picked the most realistic number for myself.
Since then, a lot has happened. I finished my last but one semester of my bachelor studies, which freed up about four weeks where I didn’t have to do anything for university. A bunch of time was spent on planes, trains, busses and in cars – and then suddenly corona hit and I found myself sitting at home with a loooooooot of free time. Of course I can’t work or study all the time, so I’ve finally had time for hobbies, including reading. While keeping myself busy, either with studying or with hobbies, the past few weeks just flew by.
May 2, 2020. It’s four months later and I’ve just finished reading the 20th book. That means I’ve finished my challenge in one third of the time I had planned. Huh…didn’t think I could do it this fast. I’ve read biographies, novels, self-development books and books about IT stuff in this time. And I’ve re-read some of my childhood favourites (which I realise now I haven’t even included in those 20 books). What do I do now?
I’ve always loved reading – it’s the perfect thing for me to turn my brain off and escape this world, no matter which book I’m reading. So I definitely won’t stop challenging myself to read more – I’ve just upated my reading challenge to 40 books this year. Let’s see if I can do that in the eight months I have left.
Anyway, gotta go now. Gotta order a new stack of books 😛
